Examples of Newsletters and Newsletter Formats
Of note in this newsletter, the interesting page template with rules that jut out into the margins like the handwritten margin rules used by monks in the Middle Ages. Also note the use of photos in copy on page 4 and 5. Good cropping and sizing on these photos, which are of varying quality. See the very dramatic and clever use of a photo running the entire length of a column on page 7. What arguably does NOT work is the title of the newsletter reversed out of the color photo on page 1. The title simply gets lost in the photo but the photo itself isn't strong enough to carry the page. Nice use of the front for the table of contents.
Exceptionally nice design on this professional newsletter. See the clever page number format that goes along with the newsletter theme. On page 2, we have a very nice design for the "director's perspective" -- This is analogous to a "manager's message" that you might find in a company newsletter. No reason why a design like this could not be employed in a company newsletter, especially for an important subject such as a company anniversary. The photograph is formal but not stuffy. A rigid, formal photograph would not work as well with this layout. The choice of initial cap font works along with the subject, since its swirling lines recall a planet's orbit. The placement of the text works because of the spacing within the page box. Other interesting layouts: Page 7 (see the use of the staggered photo and headline) and page 17 (call out quote with one-column layout.)

Example of a real estate newsletter with extensive photos and graphics
This newsletter, called Housecalls, is produced by PagesMag.com for our customers. It comes to subscribers as you see here, completely filled in. Our subscribers then use it as a starting point for their own newsletter (changing whatever they wish and adding their own articles and art) or they use it mainly as-is. It is a good example of an attractive design that is nonetheless accessible to the non-designer. The block layout inside makes plugging in new articles easy, while allowing room for individual creativity.
